The chance to visit Virginia is something most people are thrilled to experience. This beautiful state has so much to offer families and many of them are free. Filled with history, there are many great historical places to visit and enjoy reliving what life must have been like in the earlier centuries.

Virginia Beach is a must see and of course spending time on the sandy ocean shore will bring smiles from everyone in the group. Bring a picnic and an umbrella and sit back and enjoy a great way to have fun that is easy on the budget. There are several options for lodging and often discounts and specials are available all year long. Don’t forget to schedule in a day in historical Williamsburg. There are many great shops and restaurants and it is usually a favorite for tourists.

Ballet and other forms of art are popular in this region of the country, so plan on some time enjoying great performances at reasonable prices. With careful planning and timing, it will be possible to have an amazing holiday at a very reasonable price. Try to visit during the off season and this will allow the budget to go a little farther, but at the same time, nothing will have to be sacrificed. Virginia is great anytime of the year.

If you are going on a vacation, moving, or just visiting family for a while, you will want to take a few precautions so that people in town do not realize that you are not home. You will definitely want to make your home look occupied so that no one gets an idea that it would be plausible to go ahead and rob your home.

The first thing you want to do to make sure that your home looks occupied is go to the post office and have your mail held. The biggest giveaway when people are away is the pile of mail that accumulates. By putting the mail on hold you are making it less obvious that you are not home. You may also ask a trusted neighbor to mow your lawn while you are away as well.

If you can spare the extra electricity bill, leave the lights and television on when you leave for the trip. That will also make it seem like someone is home at all times while you are away. Do not have the television so loud that police want to stop by, but make it seem realistic that someone is in there watching.

As parents we know how bored children can become in the backseat of a car, especially during long trips. They begin to argue, act out, or even cry. When you are in the middle of traffic and traveling at a consistent speed it is difficult to pull over. If you and your children want to have a great traveling experience plan ahead. Keeping kids entertained on a car trip requires a little ingenuity on your part. For example, buy some fun supplies at the dollar store, be creative.

Items should be purchased according to the age of the children. Younger children enjoy coloring and playing cards. So make sure you have plenty of coloring pages, but make sure it is something that your child is familiar with. Younger children like Barney, Diego and Dora; give them choices, by having a variety of their favorite books and coloring books in the back seat storage area. Do not forget the crayons; children love colors.

For older kids you will need to be more creative. They like to draw, and they also like guessing games. They will enjoy playing card games, and board games in the backseat. If all else fails put in a movie, just do not forget to bring along the DVD player and some good movies.

If you’re moving to Virginia you should know that there’s a lot to do here outside the world of unpacking boxes and setting up your Direct TV. Here are a few high-brow activities you should make a beeline for when you first get to the Old Dominion.
Vineyard Tours: Virginia was the first wine region in the country and for good reason. With temperate climates and great growing landscapes, Virginian wine is deemed some of the best in the US. Take a full-day wine tour or map out a vineyard list on your own.
Monticello: If you’re anywhere near Charlottesville you’ll love the quaint charm and all the history here. If you make the trip you’re going to have to spend a half-day at Monticello where you can marvel in the vision of Thomas Jefferson, one of the nation’s founders.
Shenandoah Valley: If natural beauty is more your thing than architecture, make for a weekend in the Valley to get back to the land. You can camp if you’d like but if you prefer there are a number of world-class bed and breakfasts available in this area, too.

Whether you are going to the grocery store, out for the evening, on vacation or you are going on a business trip, leaving your pet(s) behind should not be stressful for you or your animal. Animals are alot like humans, they do well with routine. So you should start your pet young, training them to know there are times you have to leave and they have to stay. Make a planned routine for when you are going to leave. Pet them as you are leaving and tell them goodbye. When you return you should pet them and let them know you are home. You can ask them if the guarded the house just to make it kind of fun. You can give your pet a chew toy to help with the nervousness of being home alone so that the pet wont chew on your furniture. Make sure you leave your pet food and water so that they don’t feel neglected. Before you leave make sure your pet has used the bathroom. If you have a cat, make sure the litter box is clean or changed. If you have a dog make sure you take him for a walk to take care of his business.

We all need a little pick up now and then when we travel. It doesn’t matter to your stomach if you’re hiking a mountain trail or stuck in traffic on the way to the beach, it just knows it wants something. There are a variety of easy snacks that you can take along with you that do not need refrigeration and can be quickly tossed in a bag or purse.

I try to shy away from foods like chips and crackers since they are generally unhealthy and I find that they don’t really do the trick for me. I am a big fan of dried fruit since it is concentrated in flavor and keeps in any situation. My personal favorite is apricots because they tend to be a bit tough and it gives me something to chew. I like to add toasted almonds to my fruit for a quick hit of protein and fats to give my body the full spectrum of offerings so that I’m sure I’m getting what my body needs.

We all have our preferences, but try to bring at least something with you when you travel. Sometimes something as simple as a granola bar is all you need to keep yourself from stopping at the fast food restaurant you see in the distance.

It is easy to travel with your pets in Virginia if you do a little planning ahead of time. There are a few items that you will need to do before you leave for your trip with your pet.

You may not be able to find your pet’s regular brand of pet food when traveling, so be sure to pack your pet’s favorite food for your trip. Pets can develop an upset stomach or diarrhea if their regular food is substituted with another brand and you do not want to have any problems while you are on the road.

You may need to make more frequent stops to let your pet out of the car and to give it some exercise. Build this extra time into your travel plans so that you don’t run behind on your schedule with unexpected stops.

If you need to spend the night at a hotel, call ahead or check the internet to be sure that they accept pets. Be prepared to leave an extra deposit on the room because most hotels that accept pets will ask for one. Some hotels may even charge an extra cleaning fee.

Don’t forget your pet’s accessories, such as its food and water dishes, leashes and crates. Keep these tips in mind and you will have a great road trip. What’s 1 more click?
