THE FACULTY


The Academy of Virginia Ballet Theatre boasts a professional faculty with years of combined performing, teaching and staging experience. In addition to Classical Ballet technique, the Academy offers classes in Modern Dance, Tap, Jazz, Yoga and Character Dance. It is the goal of the entire faculty to provide a strong foundation of technique in these various dance forms, as well as to foster a love of movement and the arts.
Frank Bove, Director

Danced with Cleveland Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Colorado Ballet and Nevada Dance Theatre. Resident Choreographer and Artistic Director of Virginia Ballet Theatre since 1991. Has choreographed for Virginia Opera, Virginia Symphony and Virginia Very Special Arts.

Janina Bove
 Academy and VBT II Director

Ballet, Pointe Technique & Jazz
Principal Dancer with Colorado Ballet, Atlantic City Ballet, Arpeggio of Los Angeles and Cleveland Ballet. Former Director Dancers Unlimited and the Mill Street Dancers. VBT Company rehearsal assistant.

 

 

 

 

 

 
Suzanne Long
Academy Assistant Director and VBT II Director

Ballet & Pointe Technique
Principal Dancer with Cleveland/San Jose Ballet for eleven years and Virginia Ballet Theatre for two. Faculty-Dance Master of America and Theatre for Kids/Teens. VBT Company rehearsal assistant.

Patricia Sorrell
Director-First Pointe Players

Ballet and Pointe Technique
Danced with The National Ballet of Washington, DC. Director First Pointe Players. Assistant Artistic Director for Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Summer Program. Faculty Governor's School for the Arts.

 
Tomomi Brown
 Ballet
Studied at the School of Hartford Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School and San Diego Ballet School. Performed with Sanrio Puro Land and Shinjuku Koma Theater in Tokyo.

Sanderlin Hodges
Jazz, Ballet Technique,Children's Division, Tap
BFA in Dance, Virginia Commonwealth University.
Recreational Center Program Director.

Lauren Keplesky
Ballet, Pointe Technique, Yoga
Lauren is a graduate of the Kirov Academy of Ballet (Washington DC) where she spent three years in their residential training program. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher in Hatha Yoga. Lauren is currently a Soloist with Virginia Ballet Theatre.











 

Lisa McCarty
Jazz, Ballet Technique
Danced with Nevada Dance Theatre. Production shows in
Las Vegas at Flamingo Hilton, Sahara and Aladdin Hotels.
BS in Marketing from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.


Laurie Metzger
Ballet Technique
Studied pedagogy through Indiana University's ballet program. Currently is the Summer Program Coordinator and substitute ballet instructor at the Washington School of Ballet's Summer Intensive and primary ballet instructor and choreographer for the Evelyn Ott School of Dance. She joined the VBT Academy faculty in 2005 and is currently a Principal dancer with the Company.

Lydia Roberts Coco
Modern Dance
Eleven year member with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.

 Training Joffrey Ballet and Virginia School for the Arts. Currently a Principal dancer with the Company.
