VIRGINIA BALLET THEATRE & ACADEMY

If you are considering dance for you or your child, there are four choices of training, depending on the age, experience and ability of the dancer. The Children’s Division is for ages 3-7; it is the perfect introduction for the young dancer. The Training Track Division is designed for the dancer who is not yet certain of their career goals, but wants to insure proper training to potentially lead them to a college dance program or a professional career. The Professional Division is the final phase of the Virginia Ballet Theatre Academy; students who have progressed to this level have become the dancers most suited for a professional career. The Community Division offers drop-in classes for ages 10 through adult in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Pointe (must be approved by the instructor), Yoga, Tap and Character, allowing for busy schedules.

ACADEMY REGISTRATION FORM

Over 45 years ago a standard of excellence began in Hampton Roads. What has now become a fully Professional Company and Academy has at its roots a dedicated and talented staff of teachers, dancers and professionals. Over 200 alumni from Virginia Ballet Theatre Academy, formerly known as The Tidewater Ballet Association, have gone on to professional careers with such noted companies as The New York City Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Cleveland/San Jose Ballet and The Nashville Ballet.

The Academy of Virginia Ballet Theatre boasts a professional faculty with years of combined performing,
teaching and staging experience. In addition to Classical Ballet technique, the Academy offers classes in Modern Dance, Tap, Jazz and Character Dance.

It is the goal of the entire faculty to provide a strong foundation of technique in these various dance forms, as well as to foster a love of movement and the arts. The ballet syllabus is eclectic, based on the best training methods of the American, Russian and French schools. In addition to a year-end performance in June, students may have the opportunity to perform in the company's annual production of The Nutcracker. Other performance opportunities include The First Pointe Players and VBT II,
Virginia Ballet Theatre’s junior company.

It is our sincerest goal that all students, regardless of professional aspirations, achieve a life long love of dance in a nurturing and supportive environment.
